Book of dead

Have you ever dreamt of walking into an ancient Egyptian tomb with a torch in one hand and a treasure map in the other? Do you enjoy the adventure films where the hero dodges traps and comes out with a bag full of gold? Well then, Book of Dead must be right up your alley. The game follows Rich Wilde, the famous explorer created by Play’n GO, on his hunt for the lost Book of Dead, which is said to hold the secrets of the pharaohs and, more importantly for us, some very exciting prizes.

Book of Dead was released back in 2016, and it is definately one of the most played slot games in the UK even today. The game has a standard online slot setup with a grid consisting of 5 reels, 3 rows, and 10 pay lines, which you may adjust as per your liking. The special features involved in the game are simple but powerful: a book symbol that acts as both the wild and the scatter, a free spins round with an expanding special symbol, and a gamble feature that offers you the chance to double or quadruple your wins. Players may possibly win an amount as large as 5,000x the stake size, although you must keep in mind that the game has a high volatility rate, hence, such wins do not come around very often.

What are you waiting for? Launch Book of Dead at Monster Casino and find out if the pharaohs will share their riches with you. This article describes in detail the special features, symbols, and instructions of the game. Go through it to have a better understanding of the game:

How To Play Book of Dead

Book of Dead is quite easy to play, and the user interface is simple, making it navigable for players of all levels, from seasoned pros to budding amateurs. Once you launch the game at Monster Casino, you will get to see the grid in the middle of the screen with a dark tomb wall behind it, and a thin band at the bottom that holds all the controls you will need.

In the lower-left corner, you will find the small ‘i’ icon, and clicking on it opens the pay table and the rules of the game. Here, you get to read about the symbols, thier values, the free spins, and the gamble feature. Beside the ‘i’ icon, there is a gear icon that opens the settings, where you may possibly switch the sound on or off, adjust the speed of the spins, and more. Do you prefer playing in silence while at work? Well then, the speaker icon is the tool for you.

The betting window is where you decide how much you want to wager on each spin. Book of Dead uses the classic coin system, so you will find three seperate controls: the coin value, the number of coins per line, and the number of pay lines. You may play with anywhere between 1 and 10 lines, and the total bet gets displayed once you have set all three. The minimum bet starts from as low as £0.01 per spin with a single line, or £0.10 if you keep all 10 lines active, while the maximum bet is capped at £5 per spin, as per the UK stake limits for online slots (£2 per spin in case you are aged between 18 and 24). Do you prefer playing at the top of the allowed range? Well then, the max bet button must be the perfect tool for you, as it sets all three controls to the highest permitted values in a single click.

Once you have set your bet, click on the large round spin button found on the right side of the grid, and the reels will start spinning. Are you tired of straining your fingers by hitting the spin button continuously? Don’t worry; Book of Dead provides you with the option of autoplay. Click on the autoplay button beside the spin button, choose the number of spins you want, and the game will spin the reels on its own. You may also set a loss limit and a single win limit, and the autoplay will stop by itself once these are reached. Sit back, relax, and watch the rewards roll in.

The thin band at the bottom of the screen displays your balance, the total bet, and the amount won on the last spin, so you always know where you stand.

Let’s quickly go through the details once more:

1. Launch Book of Dead at Monster Casino.

2. Click on the ‘i’ icon in the lower-left corner to read the pay table and the rules of the game.

3. Set the coin value, the number of coins, and the number of pay lines. As mentioned earlier, you may play with 1 to 10 lines, although playing with all 10 lines increases the chances of the players landing more winning combinations.

4. Make sure you have a fixed budget in mind and stick to it. Real gambling comes with real risk, and hence, you must play responsibly. At Monster Casino, we take the matter of responsible gambling very seriously and have an entire section dedicated to it, offering players tools for their assistance.

5. Click on the spin button or set the autoplay option.

6. Land 3 or more book symbols to trigger the free spins round.

7. Use the gamble feature after a win, only if you are comfortable with the risk.

8. Enjoy!

Isn’t that simple?

Game Theme, Design, and Sounds

Play’n GO is well-known for producing graphic successes, and Book of Dead hits the nail on the head. The backdrop of the game is the inside of an ancient Egyptian tomb, with tall stone pillars on either side of the grid, hieroglyphics carved into the walls, and a warm golden light that seems to come from torches hidden somewhere out of view, adding a sense of mystery to the setting. It is not a bright and cheerful game like the fruit slots, it is dark, moody, and it really pulls you into the adventure.

The grid features stone-coloured frames and dark slot spaces. The dark colour of the slot spaces allows the symbols to stay highlighted when they land on them. The symbols are well-rendered and designed in a realistic style, with Rich Wilde himself looking every bit the adventurer in his hat and leather jacket, and the golden mask of the pharaoh shining like it was polished this morning. The unmistakable title of the game is displayed at the top of the grid in a golden font that adheres to the theme.

The soundtrack adheres to the game’s theme as well and features a slow, mysterious tune with drums and wind instruments, which gets more dramatic the moment the free spins round is triggered, offering players an immersive experience. The sound effects are minimal during the base game, but when a big win lands, the music picks up and the coins start pouring. Honestly, it is one of those soundtracks that stays in your head long after you have stopped playing.

Gameplay

The gist of the game is the same as most online slot games – one must land winning combinations of identical symbols to earn exciting prizes. As mentioned earlier, Book of Dead has a grid comprising 5 reels, 3 rows, and 10 paylines, and the winning combinations must start from the leftmost reel and run from left to right. A minimum of 3 matching symbols are required in most cases, however, the higher-paying symbols, such as Rich Wilde, Osiris, Anubis, and Horus, may possibly award a prize with just 2 matching symbols, increasing the chances of the players landing more winning combinations.

Before you spin, decide the bet value using the coin controls described in the previous section. Make sure you have a fixed budget in mind and stick to it, as Book of Dead is a high volatility slot, and the the base game can go quiet for a while before the wins show up. Real gambling comes with real risk, and hence, you must play responsibly.

Once you have set your bet, hit the spin button, or set the autoplay option, sit back, relax, and watch the rewards roll in. Keep an eye out for the book symbol, it is the key to the free spins round, and the free spins round is where the real prizes of the game are hidden. To know more about it, go through the ‘Special Features’ section of this article.

Special Features

The special features involved in the game add fun twists to the simple gameplay, offering you chances to land larger wins. Brief descriptions of these special features are given below:

Wild and Scatter Book Symbol

The Book of Dead symbol is a special one, as it plays two roles at the same time. Firstly, it acts as the wild symbol of the game and substitutes for all the other symbols, increasing the chances of the players landing more winning combinations. Secondly, it acts as the scatter symbol, which means it pays regardless of its position on the grid. In case 3, 4, or 5 book symbols appear anywhere on the grid, then players may possibly recieve a scatter prize along with the free spins round. A combination of 5 book symbols holds the potential to offer an award of 200x the stake size.

Free Spins with Expanding Special Symbol

Land 3 or more book symbols anywhere on the grid, and you will get to enter the free spins round with 10 free spins. But wait, there is more to it. Before the free spins begin, the book opens and one symbol is chosen at random to be the special expanding symbol for the round. Whenever this special symbol lands during the free spins and forms a winning combination, it expands to cover the entire reel, and it pays on all the active pay lines, even if the symbols are not on adjacent reels. This is what makes the round so exciting, as a full screen of expanding Rich Wilde symbols is how players may possibly land the massive 5,000x win.

The free spins may also be retriggered. Land 3 or more book symbols again during the round, and you will receive 10 extra free spins, and the special symbol stays the same untill the round is over. The scatter prize is paid as well, increasing the chances of the players landing more winning combinations without spending a penny of thier own.

3 book symbols = 10 free spins

4 book symbols = 10 free spins

5 book symbols = 10 free spins

Gamble Feature

Do you want to take a chance on your winnings? After any win in the base game, you may possibly click on the gamble button and try to double or quadruple the amount. A card is shown face down, and you must guess its colour, red or black, to double the win, or guess the suit, hearts, diamonds, clubs, or spades, to multiply the win by four. Guess wrong, and the win is gone. Understandably, this feature is not for everyone, and we advise you to use it only with amounts you are comfortable losing. You may also collect the win and skip the gamble altogether.

Symbols

The symbols can be categorised into two based on their worth: high-paying and low-paying. The high-paying ones include symbols, such as Rich Wilde the explorer, Osiris in his golden pharaoh mask, Anubis the jackal-headed god, and Horus the falcon. These symbols are unique and adhere to the game’s theme. The low-paying ones are the classic poker symbols, such as A, K, Q, J, and 10, drawn in a hieroglyphic style to match the setting.

The highest-paying symbol is Rich Wilde, while the lowest-paying ones are the 10, J, and Q symbols. The winning amount depends on the number of symbols that form the winning combination. The higher the number, the larger the prize. For example, a winning combination comprising 5 Rich Wilde symbols on a pay line will offer an award of 500x the stake size. While a winning combination comprising 4 Rich Wilde symbols will offer a lesser award of 100x the stake size only. Similarly, 5 Osiris symbols may possibly award 200x the stake size, whereas 5 of the 10, J, or Q symbols award an amount of 10x the stake size only.

Look out for the special symbols, such as the book symbol that acts as both the wild and the scatter, it has the power to trigger further bonuses.

Pay Table

As mentioned above, Book of Dead has a grid comprising 5 reels, 3 rows, and 10 pay lines, and the symbols are split into the high-paying and low-paying categories. The values given below are multiples of the total stake with all 10 lines active:

RTP and Volatility

Book of Dead offers an RTP of 96.21%, which is slightly higher than the industry standard of 96%. This means that for every £100 wagered, the game offers a return of £96.21. It is essential to note that this is a theoretical value obtained after assessing millions of spins, hence, the return is not guaranteed. If you don’t know what RTP is, it is the amount of wager a player may receive as a return from the game over a very long period of time.

The volatility of Book of Dead is high, which means the players will be rewarded with large prizes but less often. You may have to strengthen your patience, as the base game can go a good number of spins without a decent win, but don’t worry, once the free spins round arrives with a good expanding symbol, the prizes hold the potential to be worth the wait. This is the reason the game is loved by players who enjoy taking risks. If you prefer small and frequent wins, you may want to try a game with lower variance instead.

Book of Dead is Available on Mobile

You can now enjoy your game while commuting to work or on your way to the grocery store. The mobile version is identical to the desktop version, with the same 10 pay lines, the same special features, and the same 96.21% RTP, only the controls are rearranged a little to fit the smaller screen. All you have to do is open the Monster Casino website on your mobile browser, launch the game, and enjoy it anytime, anywhere. No separate app download is required, the game is avaialble directly in the browser.
