The Influence of Continuous Shuffling in Blackjack

Casino games are a lot of fun; they are entertaining and exciting. But generally, the most common reason why people play casino games is to win some real money. But casinos, as well as casino games providers, online stay in business as they have the edge over the customers. This edge, also known as the house edge is what prevents players from winning too much thus bankrupting the casinos.

One of the most popular card games, Blackjack, is popular for many reasons. Basically, it is easy to learn and play the game, and the Blackjack rules are considered to be more in favour of the player as compared to most other card games as well as other casino games. Another factor that makes the game of Blackjack so popular especially with professionals is that it boasts of the lowest house advantage. Hence, if you have a flair for the game, a grip on the Blackjack rules and how to devise and play with Blackjack strategies you have very good chances of winning consistently.

Card counting in Blackjack

If you see the history of Blackjack, there have been a lot of people who have actually managed to beat the house advantage and win again and again. And in 1962, an American Mathematician came up with the concept of card counting and published the technique in his book “Beat the Dealer”. This suddenly made the concept of card counting so mainstream that it led to a number of hopefuls quickly trying to master the Blackjack rules and the concept of card counting to make money at the popular Las Vegas casinos. Even today, the concept of card counting is popular and flourishing and is one of the basic things most popular Blackjack players are known for.

What casinos think about card counting?

As is obvious, most conventional casinos hate the idea of card counting, especially, when the players are good at it. Card counting lowers the house advantage though just by 1% and isn’t something any conventional casino encourages. In fact, there are many ways in which casinos try to keep track of card counters and have known to kick out players who have used this technique and have been successful as a result of it. One of the most effective methods that casinos use to keep players from being successful at Blackjack using the concept of card counting is continuous shuffling. To understand this concept of continuous shuffling and how it can influence one’s Blackjack strategy, we have to first understand how card counting works.

How does card counting work?

Basically, the concept of card counting gives players an edge since it is useful in helping them understand the position of the deck. Having an idea of what the coming cards might be, helps players make informed decisions on how to advance with the blackjack hand. According to the Blackjack rules, players win when their hand is better than that of the dealer. So, card counting involves keeping track of the card discarded to get an idea of the cards that are yet to come; understand the rough value of the remaining cards can help players whether the game is hot or not and how high to bet, etc.

The concept of continuous shuffling and how it affects players’ Blackjack strategy

Casinos these days are opting for automatic shuffling where a machine takes care of the shuffling. Hence, rather than just discarding, the cards are returned to the deck and shuffled, which means rather than them being out of the game the discarded cards can now make a second and third or more appearance after being discarded.

Though now it no more advantageous to keep track of the cards being discarded (since they might receive it again) continuous shuffling doesn’t totally nullify the concept of card counting; to be successful, the players have to change their strategy a bit. Rather than keeping track of the discarded cards, it can be advantageous to keep track of those that are yet to be played.

Thus, it is obvious that continuous shuffling doesn’t have to adversely your chances of winning. In most cases, your Blackjack doesn’t have to change but have to be slightly tweaked to suit the changing circumstances. Hence, with a good grip on the Blackjack rules and your newly tweaked Blackjack strategy, you still will have a good chance of winning!
